La Antiqua Clasico Crianza 2012
This is classical Rioja, composed of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Graciano, and 10% Garnacha. The vineyards are north-facing, and sit at over 1800ft above sea level resulting in fruit characteristics and acidity that are both bright and fresh.
Aged for 24 months in a blend of French and American oak, and an additional 24 months in stainless steel tanks, La Antigua Clasica Crianza qualifies as a Reserva.
However, it was deliberately de-classified to Crianza in an effort to offer excellent pricing. Typical of Rioja, there are intense earthy and fruit elements alike.Spiced dark cherries, meet with a lightly medicinal candied cherry note, along with red plums, tobacco, hints of smoke, and what I can only describe as Dr. Pepper. The backbone of this Rioja is so vibrant and playful, the depth & complexity is almost elusive and sneaky. SRP $18.99
