The hills to the south and west of Madrid were never used for producing higher quality wine until 20 years ago, despite ideal soils and a desirable climate for excellent grape production. This was particularly so for Garnacha. Zestos Rosado is sourced from old vine, dry-farmed, organic vineyards in and around the area of San Martin Valdeiglesias. Many vines were planted 55 years ago, and all of them grow at altitudes well above 2000 ft, many even higher. Zestos Rosado is fresh and vibrant, with zesty red berries and cherries. From start to finish there are earth and mineral layers that add a surprise level of intrigue and sophistication to this often savory wine. Retailing under $12, this may well be one of the best values for Rosé available in the United States.
